'Most of the basin is covered by the Amazon Rainforest, also known as Amazonia.' -Wikipedia.

With a 5,500,00 square km area of dense tropical forest, this is the largest rainforest in the world crisscrossed by thousands of rivers including the powerful Amazon.

The Amazon forest is home to 10% of the world's known species. A new plant or species is discovered here everyday or in two days. The temperature here reaches up to 91° Fahrenheit and sometimes drop to as low as 71° Fahrenheit at night.

Importance of Amazon Rainforest:

The Amazon Rainforest has been recognized as a repository organ of ecological services not only for local tribes and communities but also for the rest of the world. Tropical trees and woodlands exchange vast amounts of water and energy with the atmosphere and are thought to be important in controlling local and regional climates. It filters and reprocesses the world's harmful carbon dioxide output. The trees in the Amazon Rainforest have hidden attributes that play a key role in reducing pollutant levels by taking CO2 and releasing oxygen. Combining land and ocean, Amazon produces 20% of the oxygen in the earth's atmosphere. Thus, it is called The Planet's Lungs.

Fires Raging the Amazon Rainforest:

It is said that for the dry weather, wind, and heat, wildfires are caused in the Amazon.
'In August roughly 66,000 fires ravaged the Amazon Rainforest', -Lifehacker.
Nearly 80,000 fires so far this year, are experienced by the Amazon forest. The loss of trees and other vegetation due to this fire will cause climate change desertification and a host of problems for indigenous people.

Preservation of Amazon Rainforest:

Amazon Rainforest produces a huge percentage of oxygen. So, it must be preserved. Besides, it controls the world's temperature. The medicinal plants in the forest cure many diseases. The owner countries of its territory should come forward in this regard. International organizations can play a great role in this matter. All necessary steps should be taken to preserve Amazon Rainforest for our own survival.
